HARRISBURG – Rep. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland) today announced low-interest loans provided by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) will boost three local infrastructure projects in the 55th Legislative District.
“Repairs and upgrades to our water and wastewater systems are necessary but also really expensive,” said Cooper. “This assistance from PENNVEST will make sure these projects can occur without digging into ratepayers’ wallets.”
A $9.5 million loan to the Municipal Authority of Lower Burrell will be used to replace the Chartiers Pump Station in its entirety, as well as add a 1 million-gallon above ground equalization tank with blowers.
In Murrysville, the Franklin Township Municipal Sanitary Authority was awarded a $7.6 million loan to replace media in the nitrification towers and conduct brick and mortar repairs. In addition, various pieces of equipment will be replaced.
The Municipal Authority of the City of New Kensington is receiving a $3.9 million loan to replace 5,400 feet of 8-inch waterline and 200 feet of 2-inch waterline along various streets that have exhibited leaks.
PENNVEST provides grants and low-interest loans to communities across the Commonwealth for sewer, stormwater and water projects. Funding comes from a combination of state funds, federal grants to PENNVEST from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and recycled loan repayments from previous PENNVEST funding awards.
“In the case of public utilities, where delivering clean water at a reasonable cost is at stake, having access to PENNVEST loans can be the difference between a project being completed or never getting off the drawing board,” said Cooper. “It is great to see these types of investments in the 55th Legislative District.”
