NEW KENSINGTON –Rep. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland) and her district staff are urging area residents to attend her Community Health, Wellness and Careers Fair Saturday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown New Kensington, between Barnes and 10th streets.

“Our region has so many community organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of our neighbors, so I wanted to host an event that brings these organizations to one spot and make them accessible,” Cooper said. “New Kensington has a special hometown feel to it, so I knew it would be a great location.”

More than 40 exhibitors will have staffed booths and will discuss their work. This includes services for seniors, education organizations, health care outlets and first responders. At 10 a.m., the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Bloodhound Team will perform a demonstration at the booth operated by Cooper’s staff, designated with a red tent and located right at the corner of Barnes and 10th streets.

The New Kensington Police Department is co-sponsoring a Free Replacement for Hard-to-Read License Plates event in conjunction with the fair. Motorists with a license plate that is difficult to read should bring a digital picture of it as well as their current vehicle registration and driver’s license.

A police officer and Cooper’s staff will also be able to assist drivers in need of a Persons with Disabilities Parking Placard. The officer can verify that an applicant does not have full use of leg(s) or is vision impaired. Other disabilities must be confirmed by a physician.
Attendees who visit with at least 15 exhibitors, confirmed using the Community Fair Passport, will be eligible to win a prize.

Food will be available for purchase from local businesses. In the event of inclement weather, the fair will be held indoors at the Banquet on Barnes at the Knead Café located at 1100 Barnes St., New Kensington.

“My staff and I worked hard at appealing to a wide range of interests, making sure that there is something for everyone,” said Cooper. “The day promises to be a lot of fun.”
