HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland) and Senate President Pro Tem Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) today announced more than $350,000 in funding for Westmoreland County projects through the Commonwealth Finance Authority (CFA) and Local Municipal Relief Funds to help local governments with public works projects and equipment purchases.

“Our local officials balance keeping taxes as low as possible with providing services and amenities, and grants like these go a long way in accomplishing both,” Cooper said. “These investments in projects and equipment will be huge improvements to the delivery of things that residents want and need.”

More than $300,000 was awarded to Murrysville through the Local Municipal Relief Funds, including $200,000 to provide bridge repairs for the Old William Penn Highway bridge and $100,000 to support the purchase of a vehicle and equipment for the police.

“Strong communities help build strong economies,” said Ward. “The funding announced today will advance local projects that are important to helping our community be a safe and better place to live, work and raise a family.”

Additionally, more than $87,000 in Local Share Account grants were announced for three projects, including $25,000 to construct a restroom facility at Duff Park, which is Murrysville’s second largest park, including a 220-acre conservation-oriented park located next to Turtle Creek. The new restroom facility is projected to serve 1,700 visitors weekly. A $29,270 grant to replace a non-functional generator was awarded to Delmont Borough, which includes the Delmont Borough Police Station and emergency management office. And a $32,839 grant will be awarded to Salem Township to upgrade sewage pumps located at the Cloverleaf Pump Station.

Local Share Account grants support economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects through gaming funds. The CFA is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development. It distributes funding through several programs dedicated to economic growth.
