Grant Will Expand Murrysville Library Programs, Cooper and Ward Say

October 11, 2024

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland) and Senate President Pro Tem Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) are excited to announce the Murrysville Community Library has been awarded a significant grant that will expand opportunities for patrons and local residents in Murrysville, Washington Township and Export Borough.

“The Murrysville Community Library has been a cornerstone to these communities since its establishment,” said Cooper. “Dedicated to promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement, the library offers a wide range of resources, programs, and services for all ages.”

Coming in at nearly $400,000, the grant is offered by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority’s Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program. It is funded by the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund, which was established under the federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Grants were made available to community institutions for projects to construct, acquire, or improve facilities that are open to the public and will directly enable work, education and health monitoring.

“Libraries are an essential part of every local community to educate and serve its residents,” said Ward. “This $400,000 grant to the Murrysville Community Library will not only help deliver on its mission to inspire ideas, enrich lives, and create opportunities for learning, but also encourage literacy and enjoyment.”

The Murrysville Community Library project will expand accessible broadband services, develop workforce initiatives and related opportunities otherwise not found in the region. The grant will also create a supportive and impactful area for teens and increase accessibility to individuals with disabilities by providing a much-needed space for education-based activities such as tutoring.

“My love for libraries began early in life when, as a child, my family and I would visit the bookmobile. This fueled my love for reading, which ultimately lead to my success in school,” said Cooper. “Public libraries are essential to our communities and furthering their mission is precisely the reason that the grant was created. These funds will translate to a better experience to just about everyone who visits the Murrysville Community Library.”
